Jimmy Page was a session guitarist and producer before he joined the 60s blues rock band The Yardbirds. Shortly after the Yardbirds stint, Jimmy was the founder and brainchild of English rock band Led Zeppelin. (Who started out under the name The New Yardbirds).
His style was influenced by blues and rock based music but with some folky acoustic guitar work in places.
His production featured 'layering' guitar parts to create the sounds of Led Zeppelin.
When playing live, Jimmy tended to use mainly Gibson Les Pauls, with the exception of a Fender Telecaster on a few numbers. A Martin D28 was used for acoustic work. Not forgetting the famous Gibson SG double neck that he used on Stairway to Heaven and The Song Remains The Same.
The guitar pictured below is like the one Jimmy mainly used live. It's a 1959 Les Paul and remains to be one of the most sought after guitars ever.
