I thought I'd add some info about some of the most influential guitarists in popular music.
Let's start with David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. Dave has a very lyrical style to his guitar playing. He tends to play slowly and soulfully with a big emphasis on melody.
Bending notes is a big favourite technique of David's. Listen to some of his tone and a half bends on Pink Floyd's masterpiece The Dark Side Of The Moon album for pure guitar bending and listening joy.
Picture below is a Fender Stratocaster which has been the instrument of choice for David for much of his work. Live, he occasionally uses a Fender Telecaster or a Gibson Les Paul with P90 pickups which he used for a few live tunes when I saw him perform at the Royal Albert Hall back in 2006.
When I was travelling, I was actually approached (online through Myspace) for an audition as guitarist for a Pink Floyd Tribute band that toured the world (to play David Gilmour) which was an honour! I unfortunately had to decline the audition as I was in Chile and was not due to be returning to England for 5 months. If you would like to learn guitar string bending or any technique on guitar, please don't hesitate to contact me.
