Frank Zappa was one of the greats of alternative electric guitar of the 20th century. A pioneer in composition and also pushing the envelope for getting new possible sounds from the electric guitar, Zappa had his guitars wired up to his specifications to get a totally unique tone which aided his unique and personal style of playing. Sometimes fast, sometimes, slow and soulful, and very often angular. He invented his own style which was often super imposed pentatonic scales and poly scales.

Pictured above is a Gibson SG. Zappa used these guitars (but customised to his own specifications) throughout much of the 70s. Check out Inca Roads for compositional genius or Black Napkins for slow and soulful beauty. Zappa's guitar playing is a bit like marmite, and it will twist your brain!
